Tim replied,
“Well, ok then.” When they got back from the lake, they found eight other ducklings. One egg still had not hatched. Finally, the egg hatched.
“Lynda, that’s the ugliest duckling I’ve ever seen!”
“It’s not my fault I’m ugly!” said the duckling.
“Let’s go down to the lake!” said the mother duck.
“Ok!” all the ducklings said together. So they went down to the lake. Nobody swam near the ugly duckling because of how ugly he was. He had chicken pox dots, warts and so much more ugly stuff. They saw a farm. They decided to visit it because they hadn’t seen a farm before. When they got to the farm, they saw heaps of animals. AllĀ the animals didn’t like the ugly duckling because of his ugliness. The chickens pecked him. The farmer kicked him. So, that night, he ran away. He was sad to run away from the big red barn where their shelter was but he had to go. The next morning, when Tim and Lynda woke up, they could not find him. The mother duck and all the ducklings were still asleep.
“Lynda, do you think we should go without telling the mother duck what’s happened or wait until she wakes and tell her?” asked Tim.
